TWT Summer Training Series with PSC
Our Summer
Training Series this year will spin around in-line skating skill
development and skill transfer to alpine skiing. Use the Contact Form
to inquire more about the program but we'll be learning pretty much
skiing - just using skates, and maybe some of the Double Push
technique if we get there this year...
STS Program Cost: $20 for
PSC Members and $40 for Sponsors.
The series includes four training sessions spread over the summer
months. Dates and times may vary so check the STS pages frequently.

Tips for before and while on the slopes
- Get in shape. Don't try to ski yourself into shape. You'll enjoy skiing more if you're physically fit.
- Take a lesson. Like anything, you'll improve the most when you receive some guidance. The best way to become a good skier is to take a lesson from a qualified instructor.
- Consider signing up for a development program that will guide you through your learning and secure best results.

| | Railroad Tracks Drill by code2ski | With the introduction of shaped skis carving has become not only
possible or easier, but it has developed into a whole new sport, in addition to revolutionizing alpine skiing and racing in itself.
Many instructors and coaches introduce the, so called, "railroad tracks"
drill as an entry-level exercise to carving, and also racing. Railroad track turns are called that because of the two, almost parallel marks left in the snow by the skis' inside-turn edges.

This article is a synthesis of the "Old School... ...New School; What
Two Generations of Champions Can Teach You" article published by Ron
Kipp in the Alpine Masters Series; Autumn 2010. There are some
departures from the cause/effect interpretations of the original article
author, and the material has been adopted for the Time Will Tell
program students as "focus points".

| | Wagon Wheel by code2ski | | Wagon wheel is what the name says it is. Picture a hub and spoke wheel in your mind and apply to the snow with your skis on. | | Erin's Trenches by code2ski | Trenches - best dug on soft days with your ski boots are usually longer and deeper then wider. They are your "magic skis" and are perfect to try before stepping into your first "real skis."
| | The Trick of Art by code2ski | The Trick of Art is an excellent drill, skill development and simply an eye-opening trick that can be used by both students and instructors. The trick is in using poles in a very unconventional way to make the body do what is otherwise a long road from explaining the concepts to seeing them applied in skiing.
| | Teaching Theory: Teaching and Learning Styles by code2ski | Joan E. Heaton is a popular contemporary writer on teaching styles in the PSIA circles, so if you happen to study for a certification with the oraganization, like I do this year, you'd rather get familiar with her work. They are well structured and widely accepted but, as always, one needs to be careful of not killing the natural dynamics of learning and teaching process with over-analysis. | | TELEMARKING for ALPINERS by code2ski | Not long ago I got my first opportunity to tele with and among some of the best free-heelers in the region. And I was hooked, big time! Now, did I hang my alpine boards and free-heel since? No, not at all but I cannot stop thinking about it and I cannot wait another opportunity to go out and tele again to further explore the truths about my alpine skiing! Yes, you got it right, ALPINE skiing. | | Components of Modern Alpine Skiing Techniques by robertz | Introduction of brakaway gates in the early 1980s had big impact on racing techniques but this time around changes in equipment and technology have revolutionized not only racing but skiing, in general. |
