"The Time Will Tell" Development Program with PSC Minimize

Embark on a journey in time! Ski with the 2009 NASTAR National Champion*.  But don’t just listen to his advice - let the time tell the truth about your skiing!

Video Captured Movement Analysis and Instruction Option

race2ski

  • Have you thought of running a race course but are afraid of it?
  • You have actually run a course but have “mixed” feelings about it.
  • You are open to the idea that timed runs may be good benchmarks of your skill progression.

Introduce racing concepts, skills and drills into your skiing and this mountain will grow – just for you – a few thousand feet, easy.  You will ski with more control and at levels never attainable before.

ski2race

  • You are an aspiring racer, or have raced in the past, or participate in the NASTAR or club programs and want to improve your medal or club position, or
  • Want to join the Weekend Warriors group - the type of racing and camaraderie we cannot get enough of!

Improve your balance and get outside of your "racing mode" to recognize and address identified inefficiencies in your stance or movement patterns or tactics; all that to attain new levels in speed and overall abilities.   With this perspective and open mind the mountain will "grow" several thousand feet for you - and you will save a lot of time and money training locally, while achieving racing recognition on the regional and national levels.

Format: 4-session plans; each session lasting 1.5 hours spread over time.  You pick your dates and time blocks; schedule and reschedule with a day’s notice. Other than the posted dates can be arranged. It’s that easy.

Dates*: *Weekends.
January 3, 9 & 10,  16 & 17, 31
February 6, 20 & 21, 27 & 28

  3. In case of a minor, print and sign this WPSC Release form, and send it to the above mentioned address.
  4. Enclose $98 for one 4-session TWT series or $196 for 8 TWT sessions.
  5. Optionally, add $20 for club race series fees (recommended).
Example:  If you'd like to sign up a minor for the TWT (4 sessions) and the Racing Team you need to fill two PSC application forms, one for the guardian and one for the minor and best if you now wrote one $40 check "for the membership".  Then you need to fill the "programs stub" and the WPSC Release Form for the minor.  Now, best if you write another $118 check for the TWT and the Race Team.  Then, send these forms and two checks to the "stub" listed contact.  We will take one $158 check, if you don't have two of them handy, but it's easier on the Club volunteers to process the paperwork, as suggested.

Program Related Drills and Articles Minimize
Bob's Matador Turn by code2ski
360 on the flats and 180 or less on sloping terrain.  A flavor of Wagon Wheel drill but with the hub moved forward just outside the tip of your skis.
Wagon Wheel by code2ski
Wagon wheel is what the name says it is.  Picture a hub and spoke wheel in your mind and apply to the snow with your skis on.
Erin's Trenches by code2ski
Trenches - best dug on soft days with your ski boots are usually longer and deeper then wider.  They are your "magic skis" and are perfect to try before stepping into your first "real skis."
The Trick of Art by code2ski
The Trick of Art is an excellent drill, skill development and simply an eye-opening trick that can be used by both students and instructors.  The trick is in using poles in a very unconventional way to make the body do what is otherwise a long road from explaining the concepts to seeing them applied in skiing.
Teaching Theory: Teaching and Learning Styles by code2ski

Joan E. Heaton is a popular contemporary writer on teaching styles in the PSIA circles, so if you happen to study for a certification with the oraganization, like I do this year, you'd rather get familiar with her work.  They are well structured and widely accepted but, as always, one needs to be careful of not killing the natural dynamics of learning and teaching process with over-analysis.

TELEMARKING for ALPINERS by code2ski

Not long ago I got my first opportunity to tele with and among some of the best free-heelers in the region.  And I was hooked, big time!

Now, did I hang my alpine boards and free-heel since?  No, not at all but I cannot stop thinking about it and I cannot wait another opportunity to go out and tele again to further explore the truths about my alpine skiing!  Yes, you got it right, ALPINE skiing.

Components of Modern Alpine Skiing Techniques by robertz

Introduction of brakaway gates in the early 1980s had big impact on racing techniques but this time around changes in equipment and technology have revolutionized not only racing but skiing, in general.

Characteristics of a Successful Alpine Skier by robertz

Elite skiers can be differentiated from non-elite skiers on the basis of power, strength and motor characteristics. However, skiing is a typical technique dependent sport and no special physiological variable is dominant to definitely predict the rank within high level performance group.

Alpine Skiing - Short History and Disciplines Overview by robertz

Skiing has been invented to assist hunting, and as practical transportation, also used for military maneuvers.  First documented evidence comes from modern day Norway and Sweden and dates 5000 B.C.  Modern day skiing is also a competitive sport...

Drop-In by robertz

This turn-entry drill can be compared to the pipe entry, where the body center of mass has to travel forward and down into the pipe before the skis move even an inch down the wall. Got it?
