With the introduction of shaped skis carving has become not only
possible or easier, but it has developed into a whole new sport, in addition to revolutionizing alpine skiing and racing in itself.
Many instructors and coaches introduce the, so called, "railroad tracks"
drill as an entry-level exercise to carving, and also racing. Railroad track turns are called that because of the two, almost parallel marks left in the snow by the skis' inside-turn edges.
